Shillong, August 28: The All Meghalaya Truck Owners and Drivers’ Welfare Association (AMTODWA) has welcomed the Meghalaya Government’s decision to extend the deadline for availing the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for motor vehicle-related dues until October 31, 2026.
The extension was announced by the Transport Department through Notification No. TPT.45/2026/51 dated August 26, 2026, issued by Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department, Sanjay Goyal.
The OTS scheme provides for the waiver of eligible taxes and penalties relating to Motor Vehicle Tax, Passenger and Goods Tax, and vehicle fitness fees. It was initially notified by the department on June 8, 2026.
AMTODWA president Wanshwa Nongtdu expressed appreciation to the Transport Department and the State Government for granting vehicle owners additional time to clear their outstanding liabilities under the scheme.
He said the extension would provide much-needed relief to truck owners and drivers facing financial difficulties who were unable to avail themselves of the scheme within the earlier deadline.
Nongtdu urged all eligible vehicle owners, particularly those with outstanding taxes, penalties or fitness fees, to make use of the extended period and complete the necessary formalities before October 31.
The Government has clarified that only the deadline has been extended and that all other terms and conditions of the original OTS scheme will remain unchanged.
