Shillong, August 29: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday visited RR Colony in Shillong and provided financial assistance of ₹5 lakh towards the restoration of two memorial structures in the locality.

The assistance will be used to renovate the damaged bust of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and repair the glass enclosure surrounding the statue of Swami Vivekananda.

During his visit, Sangma inspected the memorial site and met members of the RR Colony Development Committee. The committee apprised him of the damage and highlighted the need to preserve the memorials dedicated to the two prominent figures in India’s history.

The Chief Minister also interacted with committee members and local residents, who raised various issues concerning the development and improvement of the area.

Sangma assured the representatives that the Government would examine the issues raised and extend possible assistance to address the locality’s developmental requirements.

The financial assistance is expected to facilitate the early restoration of the damaged structures and help preserve the memorial site for residents and visitors.
