SHILLONG, SEPT 5: The BJP Meghalaya on Saturday condemned the alleged insult to the Holy Bible by Sanjay Sharma and said he holds no post in the party.
In a statement, chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said, “A distasteful incident of insulting the Holy Bible has recently come to light and BJP Meghalaya is deeply pained by the act of this individual named Sanjay Sharma.”
He said BJP believes in positive secularism and integral humanism, “a way of life demonstrated by the Honourable Prime Minister himself who regularly attends mass on Christmas Eve.”
“Such irresponsible acts only discredit the party’s ingrained values and bring disrepute to our Prime Minister,” he said, adding, “Such people with narrow, communal mindsets have no place in the BJP. Insult to the Bible is as heinous an act as vandalising Swami Vivekananda’s statue.”
The party urged authorities to take punitive action as per law.
Kharkrang clarified that “Sanjay Sharma holds no designation in the party having already resigned on the 8th of May 2026” and that if he remains a primary member, strict disciplinary action will be taken.
