SHILLONG, SEPT 5: UDP leader and West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday urged the state government to maintain uninterrupted dialogue with the Khasi Students’ Union to prevent fresh agitations.

Reacting to KSU’s warning to intensify its stir if its five-point charter of demands is not met, Lyngdoh said every action needs a cost-benefit analysis.

“I believe in a lot of interaction. Let the channel of communication be kept open between the government and the KSU. Once somebody senior from the government is in close contact with the KSU leadership, a lot of things can be resolved without ego and without a show of who has more guts,” he said.

Lyngdoh said confrontation should be avoided as it leads to loss of revenue and reputation for the state.

It may be recalled that KSU president Raymond Kharjana, vice president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet, general secretary Reuben Najiar and assistant organising secretary Jeremaiah Pohthmi were arrested in connection with the violence during the August 19 black flag bike rally in Shillong, during which two vehicles were torched and 31 others damaged.
