Shillong, September 22, 2026: Step By Step School, Barik, Shillong, marked its 47-year journey with its annual School Concert 2026, held at the Multi-Purpose Theatre, Lariti, Mawkasiang, under the theme “Steps for a Brighter Tomorrow.”
The concert brought together students from Pre-KG to Class VII, who showcased their talents through songs, dances, drama, speeches, poetry, a fashion show and other creative performances.
The programme was presented in five segments — “Our Roots,” “The Magic of Childhood,” “Growing Together,” “Finding Our Rhythm” and “Together We Shine.” Together, the segments highlighted the children’s journey from childhood and understanding their roots to developing confidence, creativity and a spirit of togetherness.
The event opened with a “We Will Rock You” entrance performance by the Pre-KG drummers, followed by the reception and felicitation of the chief guest and guests of honour. The programme also featured a prayer, an invocation by the school choir, poetry recitation, guitar performances and a welcome song by the Kindergarten students.
Among the highlights was a fashion show by Class I, featuring costumes inspired by recycled materials, traditional designs and famous personalities, showcasing the creativity of the young students.
The concert also featured performances such as “The Enchanted Umbrellas,” “Reflections in Motion,” “Dribble Crew,” “Beat Machine Dance,” “This Is Her Era,” “The Awakening” and several musical and dance presentations by students and teachers.
Alongside the performances, students delivered speeches on topics including kindness and sharing, listening skills, school friendships, the importance of respect at home, internet and social media, and the need to recognise that children have different talents beyond academics.
One presentation, “Parents and Their Phones,” encouraged parents to spend meaningful time with their children, while another highlighted the importance of recognising individual abilities rather than measuring success only through academic achievement.
The celebration also paid tribute to the legacy of the school’s founder, the late Bluebell Wason.
The programme concluded by highlighting the school’s message of unity in diversity — “Different Talents, One Stage, A Brighter Tomorrow.”
