SHILLONG, OCT 1: The final publication of Meghalaya’s electoral roll under SIR 2026 has been pushed to October 26, with the state reporting 93.13 percent completion of notice cases and rollout of doorstep facilitation for voters, CEO Dr BDR Tiwari informed on Thursday.

Tiwari said the Commission has shifted to a voter-friendly approach for those flagged during revision.

“BLOs will go to the homes of electors issued notices for No Mapping or logical discrepancies, collect documents and upload them on ECINet for the ERO’s decision,” he said.

He clarified that electors will not have to appear before ERO/AERO offices. “Hearing will be required only in exceptional circumstances as decided by the ERO and will preferably be online. An elector can authorise any adult family member to attend on his/her behalf,” Tiwari stated.

To support vulnerable groups, DEOs have been asked to set up Help Desks and Special Camps for those in night shelters, labourers, homeless and economically disadvantaged persons.

The final roll publication now stands extended to October 26, 2026.

On progress, Tiwari said of the 21,69,243 electors in the draft roll, notices were issued to 6,51,735 — 2,22,786 No Mapping and 4,28,949 for mapping discrepancies.

“As on October 1, 6,06,939 cases have been completed. 1,194 electors have been found ineligible after due process, while 19,71,723 have been parked for final publication,” he said.

He said 23,259 forms — 12,624 Form 6, 1,616 Form 7, 1,590 Form 8 for shifting and 7,429 Form 8 for correction — have been digitised, with 1,814 Booth Level Agents appointed by parties.

He urged electors who received notices to cooperate with BLOs and check their names once the final roll is published.
