Any illegality should be controlled, probe should take place: Paul Lyngdoh on alleged police collection along Mawkhanu-Thangshalai

SHILLONG, OCT 1: UDP legislator from West Shillong Paul Lyngdoh on Thursday said any illegality along the Mawkhanu and Thangshalai area, as alleged in a sting operation by the KSU, should be controlled and probed.

“My information is very limited, as limited as only what has appeared in the media, so I will not be able to comment further unless I have details with me. But any illegality should always be controlled and any act that leads to an erosion of public trust in the system should always be challenged and I will be one person who will stand up for anything which is in the interest of the people,” Lyngdoh said.

On whether there should be an inquiry, he said, “It should be. In fact, it need not be a demand, the department should do it. I don’t see any reason — there is no need to shelter anybody committing illegalities and government should not only practice probity but also should be seen as practicing probity and transparency.”

Asked about KSU’s demand for removal of the DC and SP following the expose, Lyngdoh said, “Well, let the probe take place first. Let the report be ready and whoever is responsible should face the music.”
