Shillong, October 5: Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited hosted the flag-off ceremony for the 23rd North East Metalliferous Mine Safety Week–2026 at its mining operations in Dima Hasao, Assam, and Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

Organised under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Guwahati Region, the week-long programme is being held from October 4 to 10, 2026, with three inspection teams visiting participating mines across Assam and Meghalaya to assess safety practices and identify areas for further improvement.

The annual initiative brings together mining companies to strengthen safety standards through inspections, peer learning, evaluation and the sharing of good practices. The programme also provides an opportunity for participating mines to benchmark their safety practices, exchange experiences and reinforce a culture of continuous vigilance.

The flag-off ceremony was held in hybrid mode and was attended by around 50 mining heads and officials representing 17 opencast mines from the organised sector across Assam and Meghalaya.

At the New Umrangso Limestone Mine in Assam, the ceremony was attended by B. Dayasagar, Director of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region; Ambuj Srivastava, Unit Head; Anil Kumar Ganapurapuwar, HOD–Mines, Dalmia Cement (NE) Limited, along with mine officials and representatives of participating mines.

At DCBL Mine Block III, IV and V in Lumshnong, the ceremony was attended by K. Prem Kumar, DDMS; Kamlesh Kumar Verma, DDMS; Pankaj Gupta, Unit Head; Hemant Sharma, HOD–Mines, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited, besides other mine officials and representatives of participating mines.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambuj Srivastava, Unit Head, Dalmia Cement (NE) Limited, said the Safety Week provides an important platform for mining professionals from across Assam and Meghalaya to learn from one another and improve safety practices.

“Safety in mining is a shared responsibility, and initiatives such as this provide an important opportunity for the industry to come together, learn from one another and continuously raise the bar on safe operating practices,” he said.

He added that the programme would encourage the exchange of ideas, increase awareness and promote practical learning that could contribute to safer mining operations across the region.

Officials extended their best wishes to all participating mines and inspection teams for the Safety Week competitions and encouraged participants to use the programme to share experiences and further strengthen safety practices across the mining sector.
