Shillong, Oct 17: Newly floated People’s Democratic Front (PDF) said that it would welcome United Democratic Party (UDP) president, Donkupar Roy, if wanted to join the party.

“The principles and agendas of the PDF have made many leaders from different political parties to come and join the party. If the UDP chief wants to join us, the door of the PDF is always open,” PDF president, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said while addressing a meeting at Pyndenumiong under Mairang constituency on Tuesday.

Reacting to Roy’s recent statement that the PDF is a party of “deserters”, he said, “it is a good sign that the party formed just six months ago, has been able to attract the attention of other political parties,” while refuting the allegation that the PDF is a party which accommodated “deserters” from other political parties.

“We are also not a faction group of the Congress. The PDF has its own ideology and agenda to go to the people,” he said while informing that the party has been recognized by the Election Commission of India as a registered political party.

The PDF president also announced the name of Councellor Sing Wahlang as the party candidate from Mairang constituency during the meeting which also formed the Mairang Zonal People’s Democratic Front Committee.

Wahlang had unsuccessfully contested MDC elections in 2014 as candidate of the HSPDP and also in last year’s MDC bye election from Mairang-Nongkhlaw on BJP. He secured third position with 5,000 votes.
