Shillong, Oct 17: The BJP Meghalaya unit on Tuesday stated that the party respected the ideology of secularism.
“If you are questioning whether the BJP is not respecting the Constitution, the answer is an outright no. The BJP respects the Indian Constitution’s ideology of secularism,” BJP state vice president JA Lyngdoh said in a statement while reacting to the recent allegation of UDP senior working president, Bindo M. Lanong.
Stating that it makes little sense to label the party as not secular, Lyngdoh said, “as we already have specified terms for this, we need not be reminded by Bindo Lanong with his endeavor to cloak a religious taboo against the state BJP, a propaganda not appropriate in modern India.
“Perhaps Lanong should simplify with evidence, where has the BJP not respected the Constitution of the country and disrespected the people with different cultures and traditions? It does not make any practical sense,” Lyngdoh said.
He also said that the BJP being a national party, it is usual that its national leaders frequent the state with an aim to filch power from the incumbent Congress-led government in the state.
“National leaders of the Congress are also frequenting the state to make their party come back to power in 2018,” he said.
Lyngdoh said that the people of the state would like to know from Bindo Lanong, a team ‘B’ player of the Congress, as to why is he not questioning the same to the Congress?
Stating that the BJP is aggressively fighting the upcoming election on its own strength, Lyngdoh said that the party is committed to serve the people of the state with all sincerity with an objective to eradicate deep-rooted corruption in the present government.
He said that Lanong as a lawman is well conversant with the tenets of law, and he can nurture his complaints any time if he differs with the dogmas of the party, but it is inadmissible to stimulate his interpretation to the general public.
