Shillong, Feb 25: As many as 1,353 polling parties moved to their respective polling booths on Sunday for conducting the Assembly polls in 59 of 60 seats on Tuesday.
The election in Williamnagar Assembly seat was adjourned after the death of NCP candidate, Jonathone N. Sangma. Sangma was killed in an IED blast near Sawilgre village about 14 Km from Samanda Block in East Garo Hills district on February 18.
Out of the total of 370 candidates, 361 are in the fray from 59 seats, without counting the candidates from Williamnagar.
Earlier Williamnagar has nine contesting candidates including late Jonathone.
Meghalaya chief electoral officer, F.R. Kharkongor said that all polling parties have moved to their respective polling stations along with security personnel.
A total of 15,125 polling officials will conduct the polls in 3,025 out of 3,083 polling booths, excluding 58 polling booths in Williamnagar.
Each polling booth has five officials and each vulnerable and critical polling booth will have one section (six) security personnel.
However each normal polling booth gets three security personnel along with one home guard.
Among the polling booths, Kamsing polling station under Amlarem constituency in West Jaiñtia Hills district has the least number of voters with only 29.
To reach to Kamsing village, polling officials have to ride a boat.
Malikona polling station under Baghmara constituency in South Garo Hills district however has the highest number of voters with 1,369 voters.
