Shillong, May 10: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has suspended its two MDCs in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for their alleged anti-party activities.
They include Mawhati MDC James Sylliang and Nongskhen MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri, who were recently dropped as executive members (EMs) by the KHADC chief executive member, Pynshngain N Syiem.
The decision also came after the two MDCs have openly rebelled against Syiem, who is also the Chairman of the PDF.
Sylliang and Kharpuri have accused Syiem of misappropriating a Central fund of Rs 28 crore sanctioned to the Council.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, PDF president I. Marbaniang said, “The party’s central executive committee which urgently met today has decided to suspend the two MDCs for indulging in anti-party activities.â€
He said that the action taken by the two MDCs has affected the PDF as a party.
“In fact the leader of the parliamentary party in the Council has been appointed by the party. Any misunderstanding should have been resolved within the family but now that it has gone out, it has affected the party very much,†Marbaniang said.
Earlier, the two MDCs had claimed that a letter had been submitted to the PDF chief last month, requesting the state leadership to convene an emergent meeting of the party to discuss the issue related to change of leadership in the KHADC.
According to them, the proposal to have a meeting came after Syiem had expressed his desire to step down as the CEM of the Council since he wanted to concentrate on the affairs of the party.
