East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, Peter S. Dkhar said that it was necessary to lift the curfew to allow people to buy goods and other requirements.
Normal life was affected as curfew has been imposed since Friday morning in areas which include the whole of Jaïaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge).
The curfew was in force with any relaxation on Saturday after stone pelters continued to gather  in curfew-bound areas of Mawkhar, Motphran and Jaïaw and pelted stones at police personnel.
Though curfew was in force, the stone pelters refused to retreat from Motphran area since Thursday evening.
A number of security personnel and stone pelters were injured in the exchange of stone and tear gas shells.
