Aadhaar not mandatory for NEET, all-India exams: SC

New Delhi,March 07 : The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that only Aadhaar is not mandatory for appearing in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and other all-India examinations.

The apex court passed an interim order on the plea of Gujarat resident Abid Ali Patel, who challenged the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) circular mandating Aadhaar-only identity for those appearing for NEET examination for undergraduate medical courses: MBBS, Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said that passport, ration card, driving license, voter ID or bank account can be shown as proof of identity for appearing in NEET or any other all-India examinations.

The CBSE in its forms had made it mandatory for the aspiring NEET candidates to fill their Aadhaar number.
