Nongpoh, September 24, 2026: The All India Law Graduates’ Conclave (AILGC) 2026 began on Thursday at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in Ri-Bhoi, bringing together law graduates, academicians, legal practitioners and other members of the legal fraternity from across the country.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the USTM Central Auditorium. The conclave provides a national platform for discussions on legal education, the legal profession and contemporary issues concerning the justice system.
The event features several competitions, including the third edition of the flagship Moot Court Competition, along with judgment writing, extempore speaking, a legal quiz, debate and a Crime Scene Investigation Competition.
Meghalaya Minister in charge of Border Areas Development, Home (Civil Defence and Home Guards) and Excise, Brening A. Sangma, attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest.
Among the other dignitaries present were Meghalaya State Bar Council Chairman S.P. Mahanta; USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma; Professor Emeritus Prof. Subhram Rajkhowa; Pro Vice-Chancellor Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariya; Director of Medical Administration at P.A. Sangma International Medical College and Hospital Prof. (Dr.) A.C. Kataki; Dean of the University School of Law and Research Dr. Anurekha Goswami; and social worker and Datamation CEO Pawan Agarwal.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma said the legal profession carries a significant responsibility towards society and the nation.
He said the conclave would provide law graduates with an opportunity to exchange ideas, expand their understanding and prepare themselves to contribute to the administration of justice.
The conclave has drawn participants from nearly 100 colleges across India. Besides the competitions, participants will have opportunities to interact with legal practitioners, academicians and policymakers on contemporary issues related to the legal profession.
The valedictory programme is scheduled for September 26. Former Chief Justice of India Justice B.R. Gavai and Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere are scheduled to attend the programme along with other prominent members of the legal fraternity.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first private science and technology university in Meghalaya and the Northeast. The university received an ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its first assessment in 2021 and has also been ranked among the country’s top 200 universities under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
