Shillong, June 20: Security would be beefed up in Shillong city in view of the sit-in protest by three anti-railway groups here on Wednesday.
Leaders and members of the Federation of Khasi-Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) will stage a sit-in-demonstration at a parking lot near Additional Secretariat, to demand from the government to put on hold works for laying of railway tracks in Ri Bhoi district for the Tetelia-Byrnihat line.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, P.S. Dkhar said that permission was granted to the NGOs with a clear instruction that they should not take out any rally, and ensure that law and order is maintained.
According to the DC, the NGOs have agreed in writing to take full responsibility if law and order problem arises.
On the other hand, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Davis Marak informed that elaborate security arrangement has been made in the city in view of the sit-in protest.
