Appointment of new Chief Secretary is likely to delay

Shillong, May 19: The absence of Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma, who is still in Belgium, is likely to delay a decision on the appointment of new Chief Secretary.

The present chief secretary K.S. Kropha was convicted along with two other bureaucrats in a coal scam case by a special CBI court in New Delhi today.

The special CBI court however will pronounce its order on the quantum of sentence on May 22.

Ministers who were present in the Main Secretariat said that the state government has to take a call immediately on the issue, but no decision could be taken as the Chief Minister is not in the state.

At present, Additional Chief Secretary, Yeshi Tsering is holding charge, as acting Chief Secretary.

The 1982 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Kropha took over as chief secretary of Meghalaya on February 29, 2016.
