Shillong, Nov 14: The Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) has sought the intervention of Union Health & Family Welfare Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda into restriction to sell non-vegetarian food at the super-specialty North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institution for Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) here.
In a letter to Nadda, HSPDP president, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said, “I strongly condemn this act and request you to direct the institute authorities to restore the sale of non-vegetarian food at food outlets at NEIGRIHMS.”
He said that non-vegetarian food at the institute has been stopped since the joining of the new Director Dr DM Thappa.
According to him, the public who approached the party vent out to their anger for the inconveniences they are facing at NEIGRIHMS.
Basaiawmoit also claimed that the party also found some truth in the complaints by the investigating team.
Stating that this is ill founded action on the part of the NEIGRIHMS director, the Nongkrem legislator said that this is an attack on the food habits of indigenous people of the North East and has not been taken in good taste.
