Shillong, June 15: Meghalaya Governor, Banwarilal Purohit today presented seven Governor’s Gold Medals and Seven Governor’s Silver Medals to Assam Rifles personnel in recognition of their meritorious service and acts of bravery in counter terrorists operation.
The investiture ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday, attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Yeshi Tsering, NEC Secretary, Ram Muivah, Principal Secretary to the Governor, K. N. Kumar, Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan and senior Army officials among others.
In his address, the Governor praised the yeoman service and dedication to duty exhibited by the Assam Rifles over the past 182 years while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain of the Northeast.
He also paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices made by gallant soldiers of Assam Rifles and exhorted them to continue the excellent work.
The Governor’s Gold and Silver Medal was instituted in 1957 as a recognition for acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the personnel of Assam Rifles in the North Eastern states.
