Awareness Programme on Human Rights held at Khliehriat

Shillong, Aug. 22: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in collaboration with the office of the District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat organized a one day Awareness Programme on Human Rights for the students at the secondary and college level today at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, Khliehriat.
While addressing the gathering Shri P. J. P. Hanaman, Member, MHRC, said that Meghalaya is the third State of North East after Assam and Tripura to have a State Human Rights Commission constituted in order to safeguard the rights of every individual. Hanaman also stressed on the basic rights, viz; Civil, Political, Economic, Social and Cultural rights of the people.
Shri A. Mawlong, Secretary, MHRC, enlightened the students on the Right to Liberty, Equality and Dignity. He also said these rights are enshrined in the Constitution of India to safeguard the citizens from any violation of human rights.
