Shillong, Sept 9: South Shillong legislator, Sanbor Shullai on Saturday laid a foundation stone for the construction of market at Bishnupur-Kench’s Trace, which will house the first organic market in the city.
The proposed three-storey market complex was sanctioned by the Urban Affairs department at a cost of Rs 2.39 crore. While the top floor of the market will be used as a community hall, the ground floor has been allotted for opening the first organic market in the state capital.
The first floor will house a wet market with 23 platform stalls, second floor with 15 shops and the third floor will house the community hall.
Addressing the gathering, Shullai said that the laying of foundation stone for this market will soon be a source of livelihood for the people of the area, and the market will provide employment to the youths.
“We will also form a committee for speeding up the construction work,” he said adding that the market will also have a parking space for up to 16 vehicles.
Shullai further informed that on September 16, he will inaugurate an indoor stadium at Laban costing Rs. 3 crore.
“This indoor stadium will become the biggest and tallest in Meghalaya,” he said.
