Shillong, March 21: Former Speaker of Meghalaya Assembly Charles Pyngrope and noted Assamese actor of yesteryears Jynada Kakoti today released a book contains Assamese poems “Gunjon” written by former Additional Deputy Commissioner in Arunachal Pradesh Debandra Nath Das.
Das, a resident of Shillong, passed away in Shillong on March 11 after a brief illness. He was 87. A former NEFA services officer, he had a distinguished career in Arunachal Pradesh.
As an eminent citizen he was associated with several organizations of Shillong. He is survived by five children. The Book was published by his daughter in law Mrs Mallika Halloi Das.
Interestingly, today was Das’s shraddha day. Paying tributes to Das participants in the book release programme recalled their association with the later IAS officer and his contribution to the society. Jyanada Kakoti in speech termed Late Das as visionary. Late Das was born in Raha Bhati Gaon in Nagaon district. After completing his studies from St Edmund’s college, he joined Assam Secretariat and NEFA.
