Shillong, Jan 27: The District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District on Saturday organized a one day Legal Services Camp at Smit Village on a core theme “Bridging the Gap and Reaching Outâ€. The camp was attended by District Session Judge, East Khasi Hills District, Shri. A. Kharumnuid, Sordar of Smit village K M Syiem and others.
The camp saw the participation of thousands of residents of Smit and surrounding areas. The camp was organized with the objective of identifying and connecting the people to welfare schemes and to ensure that the fruits of such schemes are passed on to the eligible and marginalized section of the society.
Through the camp, people were made aware of their entitlements under various enactments and welfare schemes thus strengthening accessibility to such schemes. As mandated by the National Legal Services Authority, awareness camps of the kind are being held all over the country to make people aware of their rights and entitlements, and apprise them about the free legal services available as enshrined in the Constitution. Organizing legal awareness camps as per the new module laid down by the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi would not only help in making people aware of their entitlements and procedures for availing the same, but also helps connect them to the welfare schemes due to them.
A total number of 22 stalls were setup at the venue by various government departments to help to facilitate the general public about the schemes of the government. (mipr)
