Shillong Sept 18: Two-time United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA from Mawthadraishan constituency, H Brolding Nongsiej who was newly inducted as minister of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government is likely to get Water Resources, and Home Guards & Civil Defence portfolios.
Governor, Tathagatha Roy administered the oath of office and secrecy to Nongsiej at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday in the presence of chief minister Conrad K Sangma, Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh, ministers and civil and police officials.
The induction of Nongsiej into the cabinet was necessitated to fill up the only vacancy caused by Metbah Lyngdoh who resigned as minister for the Speaker post.
Lyngdoh resigned as minister on September 11, and was elected to the post of Speaker on September 13.
Earlier Lyngdoh held four portfolios – water resources, excise, tourism and Home Guards & Civil Defence.
