BSF Shillong, Dec 2: BSF troops deployed at Hat Thymmai in East Khasi Hills district along the border of Meghalaya with Bangladesh have seized a number of cattle while being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Acting on a tipoff, special operation was launched and laid a trap while some smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh.
The BSF troops challenged the smugglers but they managed to flee from the spot. The troops cordoned the suspected area and seized 26 cattle.
The BSF said that in another two incidents, the BSF troops deployed at Laijuri in East Jaintia Hills and Kasinda in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized another 15 cattle while being smuggled out to Bangladesh.
“The troops have countered the smugglers very effectively and none of their nefarious designs or mischievous adventures could succeed. The BSF has taken a series of measures to curb cattle smuggling along the border,” a statement issued by the BSF said here.
The BSF informed that during the last one year, 10,169 cattle worth Rs 12.71 crore were seized in the border, and 28 Indian nationals and seven Bangladeshis were arrested.
