Shillong, Oct 2: South Shillong legislator, Sanbor Shullai on Monday unveiled the bust of former MLA, (L) Ardhendu Chaudhuri, as a mark of remembering and paying rich tribute to his contributions.
Chaudhuri was killed in a chopper crash along with nine others on September 22, 2004, when he was the MLA of the erstwhile Mawprem constituency.
The function was organized by the Raid Laban Sports, Social and Cultural Organization (RLSSCO) near the bust, constructed at New Kench’s Trace.
Speaking on the occasion, Shullai said that Chaudhuri was the first non-Khasi to win the MDC election from Laban constituency before he became a two-time legislator from the constituency.
Recalling the contributions of (L) Chaudhuri, he also said that he was a leader who devoted his time and service in extending support to the poor and downtrodden.
As part of its endeavour to pay tribute to former leaders from the constituency, the RLSSCO had constructed the busts of former MLAs – (L) Thrang Hok Rangad, (L) Bhaskar Chaudhury and (L) Rayland Sing Lyngdoh Mawlong, a former MDC.
