Shillong, March 10: The Dialysis Unit in Shillong Civil Hospital was inaugurated here today by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma in the presence of Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Roshan Warjri.
Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma speaking to the gathering during the inaugural address expressed joy in dedicating the much needed service to the people and felt a need of up scaling the facilities in Health sector so that people look at government hospitals as favored destinations for health services. He also said that patients need to have access to facilities from diagnosis to treatment under one centre. He also informed that health facilities and infrastructures are being created all over the State so that Shillong Civil Hospital and other hospitals in the district headquarters are not the only referral centres and the people have access to health care facilities without having to travel far.
While thanking North Eastern Council (NEC) who funded the Dialysis Unit, Dr Mukul M Sangma said that North East is privileged to have the NEC dedicated to the people of North East to take care of various developmental programmes in the region.
The Chief Minister said that government hospitals in the state should keep in pace with the advancements in medical sciences and technologies. He urged the medical fraternity to render their services with sincerity, commitment and compassion.
Earlier, Secretary, NEC, Ram Muivah informed that NEC has funded a total of 4 crores 98 lakhs for four components in Shillong Civil Hospital namely, Dialysis Unit, Endoscopic Unit, Major Operation Theatre Unit and Establishment of 10 Bedded Emergency and Casualty Ward and also further informed that 3 components have been completed.
Among others who spoke at the Inauguration were Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Roshan Warjri, Additional Chief Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Y Tsering, IAS and Director of Health Services (MI) Dr R O Budnah.
