Shillong, Aug 22: Commissioner & Secretary (Community and Rural Development), P. Sampath Kumar on Tuesday held a meeting with members of the Village Employment Council and officers of South West Khasi Hills district, and urged upon the officers to help the villagers by adopting innovative ideas that are ecologically sustainable for more and better production in farming and breeding.
Kumar first held a meeting with members of the Village Employment Council at the Multi Purpose Hall, Mawkyrwat attended by South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, R. Lyngdoh and senior government officials.
During the meeting, Kumar interacted with the people and discussed about their problems and experiences and shared his ideas and suggestions on how to develop and expand their livelihood activities.
Kumar also laid stress on the need to create more Self Help Groups (SHGs) in order to make significant improvement in their livelihood activities by utilizing human as well as financial resources which is available through the MGNREGS.
Later, Kumar held a meeting with the officers of the district, where he urged upon them to discharge their duties and responsibilities by taking keen initiatives in creating multi source of livelihood activities for villagers and providing them with support system which can sustain them for a longer period.
He called upon the officers to help the villagers through innovative ideas which are ecologically sustainable for more and better production in farming, breeding in order to achieve the dreams of an economic growth model in villages.
