Shillong, Aug 22: College teachers in Meghalaya under the banner of Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) on Tuesday observed black day highlighting various issues concerning teachers and higher education.
The black day was observed by teachers as part of the nationwide agitation in response to the All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organization (AIFUCTO).
Wearing black badges, the teachers held meetings at their college units across the state as part of the protest.
Among other demands, the teachers asked the Central government to stop privatization of education, introduce pay scales and service conditions for temporary/adhoc/part time teachers, and to publish and implement the 7th UGC pay revision recommendations.
