CoMSO asks all 60 MLAs to hold protest in New Delhi

Shillong, Feb 4: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (CoMSO) on Tuesday asked all the 60 state legislators to hold protest in New Delhi against the delay of the Centre to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the state.

“It is time for the 60 legislators to take up the issue aggressively and they should consider holding protest in New Delhi,” chairman of CoMSO Robertjune Kharjahrin told reporters at the sidelines of the five-day evening sit-in-demonstration, which began here on Tuesday.

He said that the CoMSO appreciates the step taken by the state government in passing the resolution to implement the ILP, but it is not enough.

“Two months have passed, but the Centre is yet to make it clear on whether it will consider the resolution or not,” Kharjahrin said.

“Therefore, passing of the resolution is not the end of the struggle and we demand all the 60 legislators to lead the state from the front till the demand is achieved as Meghalaya has the right to get ILP,” he said.

Stating that the sit-in-demonstration is only a peaceful protest, Kharjahrin however said the CoMSO will be compelled to intensify its agitations if the Centre continues to remain indifferent towards the demand.

“We will push our protest to any extent,” he said adding that the CoMSO will also soon decide its next course of action.
