Shillong, March 30:  with the increasing misuse of the social media  police cyber cell is on high alert to combat with the misuses.  

Social Media poses many threats to the society. Easy access to Internet connection has become a very dangerous platform for social media users as most of the users are using social media in a negative way. Recent cases have come to the notice of the Police (CID) Department wherein personal videos of some persons were downloaded, edited into a vulgar one and then went viral on Whatsapp, Youtube, Instagram, etc. This is an offence under Information Technology Act, 2000.

The Additional Director General of Police (CID), Meghalaya, has issued a directives warning social media users not to engage in such illegal activity and if anyone is found involved in the circulation of such videos, etc., he/she will be liable for punishment with imprisonment upto 7 years.
