Shillong, June 4: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (MPMCC) on Thursday met the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills district Vivek Syiem to express concern over a video uploaded on the YouTube channel “Ka Jingshisha” (The Truth), which allegedly contained derogatory remarks against leaders of the Congress Party.
MPMCC State President Joplin Shylla said the party was deeply concerned over the statements made in the channel, particularly those directed at Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Vincent H. Pala. She alleged that offensive and baseless comments had been made against the senior Congress leader.
Shylla stated that while differences in political opinions are common in a democratic society, individuals should refrain from using abusive or insulting language against others. She emphasized that personal disagreements, if any, should be resolved through proper channels rather than being aired publicly in a manner that undermines an individual’s dignity.
She informed that the Congress Party had already lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Sadar Police Station before meeting the Superintendent of Police, seeking a thorough investigation into the matter.
Speaking to the media, Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress State Legal Team Chairman Kynpham V. Kharlyngdoh said the party was taking the issue seriously, especially during the ongoing political period in the state. He said the delegation met the SP to urge police authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action.
Kharlyngdoh further stated that no individual or media platform should be allowed to make defamatory remarks against a political party or its leaders without being held accountable under the law. The Congress expressed hope that the police would take the complaint seriously and proceed with necessary action as per legal provisions.
