Congress holds protest march in Shillong against “NDA Govt’s misrule”

Shillong, Nov 9: In Meghalaya, the Congress took out a march in Shillong on Saturday in protest against alleged misrule of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

The opposition party also protested against the move of the NDA government to bring back the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

Led by Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, hundreds of Congress leaders and members including the Mahila and Youth Congress took out the march from Congress Bhavan to Khyndai Lad.

The protesters raised banners and placards and one of the placards renamed CAB as “Communally Motivated Bill,”

The opposition party also called it a “March to save the economy” and accused the BJP which is lead the government, of killing democracy in the country.

The Congress also organized the agitational programmes in different states.

MPCC president said that looking at the Indian economy now, it is disheartening to see that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country has seen a major declined at 5 percent.

“In term of the growing unemployment among educated youths, the situation is becoming worse according the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO),” Lyngdoh said, adding that this is happening despite big promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Lyngdoh said that the Prime Minister has spent huge amount of money to advertise the Make in India project, but the person who spearheaded this campaign is totally silent about this.

“Despite frequent visit of the Prime Minister abroad, yet the Make in India project has no takers. It has failed tremendously,” he alleged.

The Congress leader also slammed the Central government over the increase of cases related to suicide by farmers.

“This government has promised so many things but failed to deliver,” he said.

On the CAB, he said that the Congress would continue to oppose it while alleging the CAB was designed to wipe out the indigenous people in the North Eastern region.

He said that though the Congress may not have the numbers in Parliament, but the party would fight against the evil design of the BJP through the CAB.
