Congress MLA Clement Marak laid to rest

Shillong, Oct 11: Selsella MLA, Clement Marak was laid to rest on Thursday.

Thousands of people including leaders from various political parties attended the funeral service at Tura.

Marak, the Congress MLA and former minister who had represented Selsella constituency three times, passed away at a private hospital in Delhi on October 8, following prolonged illness.

Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, ministers, legislators, and political leaders across party lines paid their last respect to the late leader.

Marak was the Minister when Dr Mukul was the Chief Minister of the Congress-led MUA government. As Minister, he was given the responsibility to look after Power, Food and Civil Supplies among other departments.

Marak represented Selsella constituency for the first time after he won the bye-election held in February, 2005.

After losing the Assembly polls in 2008 from the constituency to Conrad K. Sangma (who was not the chief minister that time), Marak returned as MLA where he defeated Conrad, who was the Leader of Opposition that time in the 2013 Assembly polls.

Marak, who remained with the Congress, got elected for the third time from Selsella constituency in the February-27 Assembly polls this year.
