Shillong, August 20: A day after violence erupted during the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) rally in Shillong, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said he spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to help defuse tensions affecting commuters between the two states.
In a post on X on Thursday, Sangma said both sides had agreed to work together to normalise the situation.
He added that Cabinet Ministers from Meghalaya and Assam would meet to discuss measures to restore peace, trust and normalcy in the aftermath of the incidents.
Sangma appealed to citizens of both states to maintain peace, harmony and restraint.
“Meghalaya and Assam share deep bonds that must be protected,” he said, stressing the need to prevent the situation from escalating further.
