Constitution day observed at Raj Bhavan Shillong

Shillong, Nov 26: To commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, known as Constitution Day or ‘Samvidhan Divas’, the day observed at Raj Bhavan, Shillong on Saturday.

Senior officials of the government of Meghalaya including officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, gathered at the Durbar Hall and took the Constitution Day Oath by reading out the Preamble led by Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Donald Phillips Wahlang.

It was in 2015, that November 26 was declared as Constitution Day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while laying the foundation stone of the B. R. Ambedkar’s Statue of Equality memorial in Mumbai, marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, the Father of the Indian Constitution.

In addition to spreading the thoughts of Dr. Ambedkar and paying homage to stalwarts who wrote the Constitution, the aim of Constitution Day is to promote Constitutional values among citizens and also to reaffirm our commitment to uphold the ideology enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
