Shillong, Apr 3: A dramatic incident in Meghalaya’s Mendipathar area on April 2, 2025, around 11:30 PM, involving CRPF personnel and a speeding vehicle.

The vehicle, a white car with registration number AS 01 AM 7750, allegedly attempted to run over CRPF personnel stationed near Pushpa Cloth Store.

The car was reportedly driven rashly and negligently, prompting the CRPF personnel to act.

In the ensuing chaos, one of the CRPF personnel accidentally fired his AK rifle while trying to open the car door, injuring one of the occupants, 28-year-old Neobirth R. Marak.

Marak, who was sitting in the co-driver’s seat, sustained bullet injuries on both thighs and was rushed to Mendipathar PHC for medical treatment.

Medical reports confirmed Marak’s injuries and indicated that he had consumed alcohol.

The driver, Sengrim K. Sangma, was also found to have a high blood alcohol content (1.9 g/L BAC) and was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

A large quantity of alcohol bottles was discovered in the vehicle, raising further questions.

Necessary legal action is being initiated against those involved.
