Customs sleuths seize cannabis from truck worth Rs. 1.60 crore

Shillong, June 10: Customs sleuths today seized over 1000 kg of high quality cannabis from a 10-wheeler Tata Truck, which was parked on the roadside near Diengpasoh village in East Khasi Hills District.
The cannabis was seized by the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) North Eastern Region, Shillong.
A total of 1027.260 kg of cannabis (ganja) was seized from the Tata truck bearing registration number plate of Punjab. The estimated value of the seized cannabis is around Rs 1.60 crore.
The cannabis was cleverly concealed inside a secret chamber behind the driver’s cabin.
The cannabis and the truck have been seized, and a case was registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The cannabis originated from Tripura and its likely destination was Bihar. Investigation has been launched to nab people involved in this illicit narcotics trade.
