Shillong, June 5: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member in charge of Finance and MDC from Mawkynrew, Seiborlang Warbah has accused the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government of failing to release the financial assistance promised to the Autonomous District Councils through the District Council Affairs (DCA) Department, resulting in a severe financial crisis within the Council.

Speaking at a public meeting organized by the Voice of the People Party, Warbah alleged that despite assurances from the State Government, the funds meant for the District Councils have not been fully released.

According to him, the delay has significantly hampered the functioning of the KHADC, with several development works and public welfare programmes being affected due to a shortage of funds. He claimed that the Council is struggling to meet its day-to-day financial obligations and implement developmental initiatives across the Khasi Hills region.

Warbah said the State Government must take immediate steps to address the issue and ensure that the promised financial assistance reaches the Councils without further delay. He stressed that adequate funding is essential for the Councils to effectively discharge their responsibilities and provide services to the people.

He further urged the DCA Department and the MDA Government to expedite the release of funds, warning that the prolonged delay is not only affecting the Councils but also hindering development projects and public services that citizens are entitled to receive.

The KHADC Executive Member also maintained that the public should be made aware of the actual financial condition of the District Councils. He argued that the Councils are often blamed for administrative and developmental shortcomings, while a major contributing factor is the non-release of financial assistance from the State Government.

Warbah reiterated that unless the pending funds are released, the financial challenges faced by the District Councils are likely to persist, affecting governance and development at the grassroots level.
