Shillong, July 12: The State government was on Wednesday asked to suspend nominated IAS officer, Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang for abusing his official position for political purposes.
The petition was submitted jointly by Civil Society Women Organisation (CSWO) and Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR)
In a petition submitted to the Principal Secretary in-charge Personnel & A.R. (A) and (B) department, CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing and TUR leader, Angela Rangad said that Shangpliang who is holding charge as Director of Social Welfare, Secretary GAD and various other departments and projects of the government has been openly abusing his official position as a career bureaucrat for political purposes, clearly violating service Rules (3A), 3(2A) and 5 of the All India Service (Conduct) Rules, 1968 as amended for serving administrative services officer.
“He has been calling and attending political party meetings while also indulging in politically partisan diversion of government schemes and funding to people to secure their political support,” the petition said.
Demanding an independent inquiry on Shangpliang’s party political activities, the CSWO and TUR said that Shangpliang should be also immediately suspended pending completion of such an inquiry and when found guilty, he should be summarily dismissed from service and all benefits due to him including pensions should be withdrawn.
