East Khasi Hills DEO reviews preparedness for Shella bypoll at Sohra

Sohra, Oct 9: With 12 days remaining for the bye election to Shella Assembly Constituency, East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner who is also the Election Officer (DEO), Matsiewdor War Nongbri held a review meeting on preparedness for the bypoll.

The DEO chaired the meeting at the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Sohra Civil Sub-Division which was attended by Zonal Magistrates, Sector Officers, Police Officials and other Election Officials of Shella Assembly Constituency.

Others present at the meeting were DIG (CID), F. Kharshiing, SP East Khasi Hills District, Claudia Lyngwa, General Observer, Himanshu Kumar Rai, Expenditure Observer, Rishabh Gupta, and Sub-Divisional Officer Sohra, L. Kynjing.

Nongbri reviewed the preparedness on all fronts with regards to the upcoming by election to be held on October 21.

Various issues were discussed ranging from location of remote polling stations, connectivity issues and security concerns.

Highlighting the problem of connectivity and accessibility which some of the polling stations could face, Nongbri stressed on the need of having a backup mechanism in order to ensure smooth conduct of the bye election especially on the day of polling.

She also directed all officials engaged for the bye election process to follow the procedures as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.

SDO Sohra, L. Kynjing, who is also the Returning Officer for the bye election to Shella constituency gave a brief presentation on the overall preparedness for the bye poll.

Kynjing highlighted various sensitive and critical polling stations and the challenges faced by the constituency besides various remedial measures which they have adopted to tackle the same.

SP East Khasi Hills district, Claudia Lyngwa, briefed on the elaborate security arrangement which they are making for the ensuing bypoll.

She said that police are geared up for the bypoll and all necessary precautions and vigil will be maintained in the constituency.

General Observer, Himanshu Kumar Rai said that so far he was satisfied with the overall preparedness for the bypoll and he was hopeful for a smooth and fair bye election.
