Shillong, June 13: Voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) is likleyly to be used in the upcoming Assembly election in Meghalaya next year.
Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), F.R. Kharkongor told reporters that the Election Commission may use VVPAT in the forthcoming Assembly poll.
“We are yet to know in how many constituencies the VVPAT will be used, but in all likelihood VVPAT will used along with the EVMs in the upcoming Assembly poll,” the CEO said.
VVPTA is a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system.
VPPAT is attached to the EVMs. The VVPAT is fitted with a printing apparatus where a voter would be able to see the candidate to whom he or she has cast the vote after pressing the bottom in the EVM against a symbol of the candidate of his/her choice.
