Shillong, Dec. 13: A five-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday met representatives of political parties in Meghalaya which is going to fresh Assembly elections early next year.
The team led by Deputy Election Commissioner in-charge Meghalaya, Chandra Bhushan Kumar arrived here on Wednesday afternoon.
The team met representatives of various political parties separately at Hotel Pinewood here and sought to know their grievances and complaints.
Political parties including the United Democratic Party raised the issue of tampering of EVMs but the Election Commission allayed the fear while clarifying that voting machines used in the civic poll in UP was provided by the state government not by the Election Commission.
The ECI team informed representatives of political parties that using EVMs along with VVPATs for next year’s Assembly elections in the state would further clear the doubts.
The team discussed with the political parties the matter related of expenditure and others and had a meeting with officials of the state government including the DCs and SPs from all the 11 districts.
