Nongpoh, August 12: Author, artist and social worker Eldora B Lyngdoh has added another milestone to her literary journey with the homecoming launch of her poetry collection ‘The Pulse’ at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar, Shillong.
The book was formally launched by Dr DRL Nonglait, President of the Khasi Authors’ Society, in the presence of noted personalities including Prof. Donkupar War, Ransom Sutnga, Rev. PG Khongwir and Rev. SS Majaw, among others.
The Pulse is a collection of 101 poems, each accompanied by artwork created by Eldora herself. She has also designed the book’s cover, bringing together her interests in poetry and visual art.
A significant portion of the collection draws inspiration from the works of Parad Rabon Sing Kharsuka, widely known as ‘U Kpa ka Pyrkhat Khasi’ and regarded as one of the early Khasi writers. As many as 39 poems in the collection are based on ideas and themes drawn from three of his works — Ka Kitab Jingphawar, Ka Kitab Niam Khein and Ka Puriskam.
Through these poems, Eldora explores Khasi customs and traditions, philosophical folk narratives, belief systems and aspects of indigenous thought. The collection is divided into 12 sections, with each section intended to open a pathway towards deeper reflection and understanding.
The book had earlier been launched on January 13, 2026, at the World Book Fair in New Delhi, while the Shillong event marks its homecoming launch in Meghalaya.
At its core, The Pulse explores the interconnectedness of human life, presenting poetry as an expression of the rhythms, emotions and experiences that bind people together. The collection reflects on life’s pauses, its emotional beats and the continuing connection between individuals and society.
Beyond her literary work, Eldora has pursued a range of interests and professional commitments. She holds an MSc in Physics and is a retired teacher of Sacred Heart Boys’ Higher Secondary School.
Her work as an artist and writer has also received recognition at various platforms. Her accolades include the Kala Sadhu Mid-Career Artist Award 2025 and Artist of the Year 2025, the Arona Poetry Award 2025 in Italy in the Unpublished Poetry in the World category for In Sacred Union, and the Grand Jury Award 2025 at an international literary competition in Italy.
She has also received the Desh Ratna 2026 Eminent Artist Award and won the Rotary Peace Art Festival Competition 2026 in Pune.
Eldora is also a black belt karate practitioner and serves as Director of NRE Pageant India Pvt. Ltd. She is an adviser to the Seng Kynthei Mawkhar Women Organisation, a member of ICSW and AIPC, Vice-President of the State NPWF and President of the 17th North Shillong NPWF NPP.
Her varied engagements across literature, art, education, sport and community activities have made The Pulse another extension of a long-standing commitment to creative expression and public life.
