Elections to KHADC, JHADC on February 27 next year

Shillong, Dec 20: The elections to the two district councils in Meghalaya – Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council has been scheduled to be held on February 27 and counting of votes on March 2, 2019.

This was informed by Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong after the Cabinet meeting in the Main Secretariat on Thursday.

Tynsong told reporters that the proposal of the district council affairs department has been approved in connection with the dates scheduled for holding of elections to the KHADC and JHADC.

Tynsong said that the date of polling to the two district councils will be held on February 27, 2019 and counting of votes on March 2, 2019.

While the publication of draft electoral rolls of the KHADC and JHADC is January 12, the last date for filing of claims and objections on January 22, and disposal of claims and objections on January 26, 2019.

The final publication of final electoral rolls of the two district councils is January 30, 2019.

A notification for calling of the district council constituencies to elections will be issued on February 2, and the model code of conduct will also come into force from this day.

Tynsong informed that the last date for filing of nomination is February 7, 2019, scrutiny of nominations on February 8, 2019 and withdrawal of nomination papers on February 9, 2019.

The tenure of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council will expire in February, 2019.
