FIR against SP (traffic)

FIRs filed over circulation of fake news on imposition of lockdown in Shillong agglomeration

Shillong, Dec 20: An FIR was lodged against the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Bashan J. Laloo for allegedly assaulting one person who is a musician recently because of overtaking.

In his complaint submitted before the Officer in-Charge of Laitumkhrah police station here on Thursday, Manavon Massar demanded immediate suspension of Laloo (who was wrongly identified as deputy SP (traffic) in the FIR) and termination post inquiry.

Massar, who identified himself as a pianist and musician, also demanded reimbursement for all his medical tests and checkups and subsequent medical expenses resulting from the injury.

He said the incident took place on December 19 at around 7.30 pm when he was driving a maruti 800 car (AS 01 E 6188) and overtook some cars on the St Edmunds School road.

“When I reached Fire brigade my friend Dharmesh Parmar from Bombay and I were greeted by a black Bolero. A constable knocked on my window and asked if I had a license. Then a man with a name tag “Laloo” pulled me out of the car. Before even asking anything, this police officer forcefully took me out of the car and beat me up hysterically like he was drunk and spoke to me in Hindi and did not let me speak,” Massar said.

He added, “When I asked him in Khasi why he was beating the life out of me when I was just overtaking some cars, he replied instead “if this was Garo Hills I would have just shot you.”

Meanwhile, Massar also said, “Owing to this violent attack and injury to my hand and finger, I had to cancel many upcoming gigs. This loss has to be compensated. Further, any long term negative impact on my musical career owing to this injury also has to be taken into consideration while awarding compensation.”
