Former JHADC CEM skips special session with 2 MDCs

JHADC says Khanduli, Moojem are well within Meghalaya

Shillong, Sept 22: Former chief executive member (CEM) of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), Thombor Shiwat along with two other MDCs skipped the special session convened in Jowai on Friday.

The two MDCs include Madonbai Rymbai, also a former JHADC CEM and Joinliwell Pyrtuh.

However the special session lasted only for a couple of minutes after the purpose of summoning the House got defeated following the resignation of Shiwat as the CEM on Thursday.

The resignation of Shiwat was informed to members of the House by the JHADC chairman, Arborhima Darnei, who read out the letter submitted by the CEM (Shiwat).

Speaking to reporters after the session, Darnei said that the special session was convened after the request of 23 MDCs for bringing a no-trust motion against Shiwat and it ended with just giving information to the House regarding Shiwat’s stepping down.

He informed that he had already forwarded the same to the district council affairs (DCA) department and hope that soon the House will be summoned again for the election of a new CEM.

The present deputy CEM, Andrew Shullai may be elected as the new leader of the House, after he was appointed as the parliamentary party leader of the Congress at a meeting held with the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee on September 18.
