Shillong, Sept 7: Four out of eight MDCs of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) have joined the BJP on Saturday.
The four MDCs who left the United Democratic Party (UDP) were felicitated at the BJP office Oakland Road in the presence of BJP leader in-charge Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli, BJP MLAs, A.L. Hek and Sanbor Shullai, state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh and other party leaders and members.

The four MDCs include Lakhon Biam, Dawan Lyngdoh, Krishon Langstang and Treilang Suchiang all from the UDP.

But four Congress MDCs who were also supposed to join the saffron party, did not come to the BJP office.

In his speech, Hek said that Lakhon Biam and Krishon Langstang returned home because they were with the BJP during the 2018 Assembly elections.

Lakhon Biam is the Chairman of JHADC.

“From today, the BJP has its MDCs in JHADC. It is our duty to strengthen the party because in 2023, the BJP will form the government in Meghalaya. We need to enroll more members and carry the pride of the party to the nook and corners of the state,” Hek said.

He also informed that though the four MDCs have joined the BJP, they would continue to be part of the alliance in JHADC along with the NPP and UDP.

BJP legislator from South Shillong constituency, Sanbor Shullai termed the joining of the four MDCs “sign of brightness for the BJP” .

Shullai said that more people would join the BJP because many leaders from different political parties have been joining the party.

Recalling how people in Meghalaya had many years ago rejected the Congress but accepted it later, Shullai also said that now people in the state have again rejected the Congress, but they have accepted BJP.

Shullai also said that the BJP would form the government Meghalaya in 2023 on its own.

He called upon party workers to work hard and enlighten the people about the wrong and political proganda of Congress and other parties.
