Shillong, March 16: The Meghalaya government has decided to appoint more traffic police for smooth traffic flow at Nongstoiñ town.
Giving a reply in Assembly to question raised by Nongstoiñ MLA, Diosstarness Jyndiang, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh said that the proposal to appoint more traffic police officers and constable and the department is awaiting approval.
Lyngdoh said that a committee was also constituted to solve traffic congestion in and around Nongstoiñ town.
According to Lyngdoh, in the absence of proper parking lots within the town, the vehicles are compelled to park on the roadside which led to the traffic congestion. About 1,500 vehicles comprising local taxis, tourist, sumos, buses, trucks and private vehicles are playng daily in Nongstoiñ town.
