SHILLONG, JUL 13: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday said the government will initiate action against those responsible for the Lapalang incident in which five workers died, and added that the state is examining ways to provide support to the bereaved families.
“The individuals who are not following those prohibitions are breaking the law. Appropriate action will be taken against them,” Sangma said.
He noted that the victims were from economically weaker sections and that the state was looking at providing assistance despite no existing provision under disaster management rules.
“Because they are from poor backgrounds, I will examine the matter and I will take a decision,” the CM said.
Sangma added that he had received letters from NPP party units, including the Nongthymmai unit, urging support for the families.
“I am examining and seeing how we can give some support,” he said.
